Longview Farms 4

Longview Farms, located in Story County, is a multifaceted establishment, offering services such as crop share lease, flex lease, cash rent lease and custom operation, along with caring for roughly 60 acres of their own.

These farms produce commercial corn, seed corn, seed beans and commercial beans.

During our visit, we met with Laurie Henry. Henry is responsible for the marketing and bookkeeping at Longview Farms alongside seven other full time and seven seasonal employees. We learned that in 2011, Laurie and Steve Henry formed the LongviewFarms General Partnership after being in the farming industry for twenty-three years.

We posed the following questions to the farmers:
  1. What methods do you use to preserve and improve your soil quality?
  2. Do you use any chemicals in your soil to help your crops grow?
  3. Do you till your soil?
  4. How does weather impact your crops?
  5. Is there such thing as perfect weather for your crops? If so, what is it like?
  6. Does your company foresee that any of your farming practices could harm the soil in the future?
Now looking at how the farm works....
